London in Flux: A Drawing Workshop led by Alexandra Blum

One of London’s most talented artists and SEEN fave, Alexandra Blum invites you – whatever your level of experience – to a new drawing workshop focussing on the fascinating Thames Barrier area, on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August 2018 from10.30am – 4.30pm. In the current heatwave (set to continue) this is undoubtedly the place to be.

Alexandra says: ‘South of the river, close to the Thames Barrier everything is in flux. Tidal flows and working industry jostle with the city’s skyscrapers poised on the horizon. I’ve been drawing on the banks of the river for the past year and I’m excited to be leading a drawing workshop based on my visual and spatial discoveries in this dynamic area.

During this two-day workshop we’ll explore both vast and intimate scales: contrasting panoramic views across the river with close up encounters with the dramatic structure of the Thames Barrier, its relationship to the fluctuating river, foreshore and surrounding industrial and residential buildings, themselves in the throes of demolition and construction.

Focussing on movement through time and space, we will explore the interaction between form and void to suggest presence and absence, as well as abandoning static single moments drawn from a fixed perspective to explore compressed space, actual and implied movement and the layering of space and time within an image

Suitable for all levels! The workshop will be a mixture of group and individual tuition, so whether you’re new to drawing or have spent many years drawing, come along and experience the precarious balance between manmade and natural forces in this ever-changing environment.’
