Tricity Vogue’s All Girl Swing Band come to Wilton’s Music hall

SEEN hears that fabulous cabaret star Tricity Vogue will bring her nine-piece All Girl Swing Band to Wilton’s Music Hall for a riotous night of surprising swing music and feel-good entertainment on Wednesday 18 July. The all-female supergroup of top flight musicians will play tracks from their new album live on stage, before making CDs and digital downloads of the album available to buy for the first time.

Returning to Wilton’s for the fourth year in a row, this performance is a special one for the band, as it also marks the launch of their new album, Well Swung! Recorded in Cowshed Studio with producer Nick Trepka over the last two months, the album includes some of the band’s trademark mischievous covers, along with favourite original tunes written by bandleader Tricity Vogue. The recording features sizzling performances from the band’s horn section and rhythm section, with lush vocal harmonies. There’s even a solo from the band’s beloved tap dancer, Josephine Shaker.

An all-female line up is still unusual for a jazz band, but with the support of friends and fans, Tricity and her bandmates plan to use their new album to launch the band to a wider audience, including festivals and venues in the UK and overseas. On the day of the launch, the All Girl Swing Band will also be shooting a music video for one of their new tracks in Wilton’s glamorous auditorium, to be released in September.

Many of the front row cabaret tables will be occupied by supporters who’ve donated to the band’s crowdfunding appeal, to help fund the making of the album. These donors will receive VIP treatment as a thank you for their generosity. Many other donors will receive pre-ordered copies of the album, handwritten notes, and even signed kazoos as their backer rewards.

Bandleader Tricity Vogue, who lives just across the water from Wilton’s, in Rotherhithe says, “Wilton’s is my dream venue. It’s the perfect home for my All Girl Swing Band, with a magical atmosphere that is unique to this stunning historical space and the people who come to it. I can’t think of anywhere else I would rather hold the launch party for our new album. It’s been a labour of love to create it, and where better to bring it out into the world? I hope one day that an all-female brand line-up will be no more unusual than an all-male one. I want to help showcase the work of women musicians and make the world aware of their talents.”
