The Cocktail Trading Company Launches ‘Afternoon Par-Tea’ on 30th June

Is there anything that defines a quintessential sort of Britishness more than afternoon tea? SEEN thinks not. The Cocktail Trading Company is set to reinvent this pastime accompanied by witty sounding cocktails and a live rockabilly singalong, no less.

You’ll find it just off buzzy Brick Lane. The ‘Afternoon Par-Tea’ will take place in the CTC’s Shoreditch HQ. Guests will enjoy themselves at the dark mahogany bar, surrounded by wood-panelled walls, Persian rugs and quilted green stools – so far, so understated. On the first and last Saturday of the month the bar will host a flamboyant tea party, with colourful cocktails and tasty treats.

It works like this: Upon arrival guests will be seated at their designated table and partake of their first cocktail, the Cup-o-Punch (Banks Jamaican Rum, Aperol, Champagne, with rhubarb, raspberry sherbet and a mixed fruit garnish). Guests then choose from the menu where afternoon tea classics are reinvented as cocktails in the inimitable CTC style.

You’ll be able to choose from the Afternoon Mar-Tea-Ni (Bombay Sapphire Gin, blackcurrant jam and egg white, shaken like a dog on heat and topped with bubbly – served straight up in a champagne flute and garnished with a toasted scone flake); a gloriously-named Cucumber Manwich (Green tea-infused Bombay Sapphire gin, Cucumber and Galia melon juice with Suze bitters and a solid spritz of bubbles – served long and garnished with fresh melon and cucumber); a Shake and Bake (Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum, almond mandarin sherbet and bitters, shaken and served on the rocks – garnished with a Mr Kipling finger cake).

An assortment of mini finger sandwiches and delicious handcrafted cakes complete the tea party. Meanwhile, professional musicians will play whatever guests desire (procured through a table song request book): anything and everything from Shaggy to Bon Jovi.

The talented team behind the ‘Afternoon Par-Tea’ are Andy Mil, Elliot Ball and Olly Brading who co-own the Cocktail trading Company and have been bringing Londoners imaginative concoctions served in bespoke drinking vessels since 2015. SEEN will be attending the launch and will be reporting back from the front line of what promises to be an unforgettable drinking experience.
