Breks in the City: One Lombard Street Brasserie

SEEN is tireless in her quest to discover lovely places to eat in London. Here’s a tip: visit One Lombard Street Brasserie at about 10am (after the breakfast crowd has gone to work). This delightfully old-school restaurant looks like a film set with its central bar, surrounding tables and dark green banquettes.

London has so many centres but the City is the place for fine dining at the moment in SEEN’s humble opinion. 1 Lombard Street has snowy white napery (don’t you just love that?), friendly staff and wonderfully luxurious breakfast offerings. We could have had Lobster Benedict but instead I went for Eggs Florentine while my guest had scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and sourdough toast. We both drank Americanos and fresh pink grapefruit juice – the perfect antidote to the cold weather.

The scrambled eggs were buttery, the Eggs Florentine delicious and – this is crucial – SERVED ON WARM PLATES. We sat at a corner banquette where we had a jolly good view of the room. SEEN loved it for its luxury and warm welcome (and plates). It’s an excellent place to watch the denizens of the City of London broker their deals and take meetings. If you have visitors from out of town, bring them here; it’s quintessential London like you see in the films.
