Monc Sunglasses: Modern Classics

SEEN is rather taken with this British brand that epitomises old-school glamour with modern design sensibility. The company was founded last year by product, interior and spatial designer Freddie Elborne who clearly delights in celebrating the process that goes into the creation of these beauties while taking pride in those who do the creating. Designed in London and hand-crafted in Italy by traditional family businesses, then finished in London in beautiful naturally tanned leather cases that can also be personalized, we’re talking future fashion heirlooms here.

Monc values quality, provenance and ethical production; the polar opposite of disposable fast fashion. The collection is based on different creative areas around Europe: Kallio, London Fields, Gràcia, Södermalm, and Kreuzberg. Artist Elsie Evans has painted designs corresponding with each district on micro-fibre cleaning cloths, which also include the story of each area.

Ladies of the Press at Sluice Biennial

SEEN headed up to Hackney recently, there to peruse this year’s Sluice Biennial. A large and airy building at Morning Lane housed fascinating creative projects by artists and creators who have come together under the Sluice banner. What SEEN particularly liked was the variety of work on display and the informal atmosphere in which it …

The Castle at the Space: SEEN Reviews

SEEN was not that familiar with the work of Howard Barker prior to seeing ‘The Castle’ but feels she must rectify that situation. A powerful piece on the nature of masculinity, war, gender roles and the essential unreliability of religious faith, ‘The Castle’ benefits from a powerhouse cast and a stripped-back set, making the most of the Space’s environment.
