Dutch Brunch at Paradise Garage

SEEN will be trying a Dutch Brunch in a couple of weeks and feels practically obliged to go out and overdo it the previous evening so that she can benefit from a Bloody Mary the next day.

This summer, Ketel One Vodka will be teaming up with acclaimed East London restaurant Paradise Garage, from Robin Gill’s restaurant collection, for a Dutch Summer Season. Championing brunch the Ketel One Way, cocktails, including classic and quirky Bloody Marys, will be expertly paired with dishes from chefs Patrick Williams and Simon Woodrow, some of which have been given a Dutch twist with the help of Michael Zee from Symmetry Breakfast. As well as the the Ketel One Dutch Brunch, a summer terrace bar will be installed on the iconic terrace at Paradise Garage, allowing guests to enjoy their Dutch experience al fresco.

Ketel One Dutch Brunch Bottle-1

Inspired by Dutch traditions (think quirky) and cuisine, on July 30th and August 20th diners will seat themselves round the table to share a fabulous Dutch Brunch in the Scandi fashion. Ketel One brew their vodka at the Nolet distillery and so Michael drew further inspiration from an immersive trip there earlier in the year. If you haven’t tried it, Ketel One® Vodka is a sophisticated and crisp, wheat-based, super-premium blend crafted from small batches, using copper pot stills as a part of the process.

The menu (SEEN can’t wait!) includes contemporary twists on traditional Dutch foods including snacks of Ox Cheek Bitterbollen, Pickled Herring and sweet Pampoen Koekies, a light fluffy pumpkin fritter. Larger plates such as spicy Rookwurst and Chicory Bubble & Squeak, Dutch Eel Company Smoked Eel and Curry Hollandaise or a Gouda and Mushroom Toastie are also available.

Sweet options include ‘chocolate rain’ Hagelslag on Sourdough, a traditional breakfast dish made of Dutch chocolate sprinkle-covered toast, Koeksisters, a delicate confectionary made of deep fried dough infused with honey or Stroopwaffles with Speculoos Parfait, a dessert dish of caramel waffles with biscuit flavoured cream. If that doesn’t cure a hangover, I don’t know what will.

The Bloody Marys will include a range of vegetable bases: celery, beetroot and carrot, created by Ketel One Ambassador David Beatty to accompany the Dutch Brunch. The terrace at Paradise Garage will also see a Ketel One pop up for the summer with special cocktails and sharing plates to enjoy in the long summer evenings. Paradise indeed…

Fever-Tree’s Very Own Gin School

London has always had an enthusiastic relationship with gin; right from the days when the water was undrinkable, gin has become the city’s tipple of choice. Imagine SEEN’s joy therefore, when we heard that this month, gin and tonic experts, Fever-Tree, is launching its very own Fever-Tree Gin School.

Bufle: Launch of the Bubble-Waffle

SEEN has heard much of the phenomenon of the Asian Bubble-Waffle and thus was very keen to sample this Hong Kong import for herself. My guest and I found ourselves in a bright, buzzy bar/café with tables and plenty of counters and high stools. It’s in Rupert Street, between Soho and busy Leicester Square.

Arthur Hooper’s Weekend Brunch

SEEN has been a huge fan of Arthur Hooper’s since their May opening. It’s handily located close to Borough Market (where much of their ingredients are sourced), so it is with great delight that we hear weekend brunches are now on the menu too.
