On Tuesday 29th November at 7.30pm, The King & Co will host an exclusive wine pairing dinner by current kitchen resident, Donostia Social Club, and celebrated winemaker Fernando Mora of El Botijo.

Promising a true taste of Spain, the ticketed supper at the popular independent Clapham pub will allow guests to learn all about the region’s wines and the fine art of food pairing, in a private tutorial by the acclaimed sommelier turned winemaker, whilst enjoying a four-course Basque-inspired menu that has been specially-designed for the event by the much-loved popup pintxos specialists.

Fernando Mora is one of Spain’s most exciting young winemakers at the moment. His El Botijo wines come from organic vineyards and produced in the Valdejalon in the Northeast. Winemaking in the area is believed to pre-date Roman settlements and is ideal for producing high quality wines. Fernando and his partner are the garagistes of the area, making wines in small quantities and taking great care at every step of production, hand picking the grapes and taking a “minimum fuss” approach to production.

Well-known as stalwarts of London’s streetfood scene with their iconic mobile pintxos bar and now with a permanent home at Pop Brixton, Donostia Social Club is the result of a 20-year culinary career for its founder Paul, with much of that time spent cooking in Spain. Taking inspiration from the very best dining experiences found in Northern Spain and Southern France, the team’s infamous tapas and signature small plates are ideal for sharing.

Donostia Social Club’s four-course menu for the wine pairing dinner on 29th November will feature brand new seasonal Basque dishes, including cauliflower velouté with blue cheese croquetta, plus loin of venison with spiced squash and roast turnips. El Botijo’s award-winning Garnacha Blanca and Rojo Garnacha wines made their UK debut this season, so this special collaboration at The King & Co is one of the first chances for wine-lovers in London to discover these fine wines, and an unmissable opportunity to hear the story behind these wines from Fernando himself.

Tickets are £30 and are available from Design My Night: www.designmynight.com

Sculpture in the City, Art for Everyone

SEEN thoroughly enjoyed a preview of the 18 new artworks around the financial district’s square mile. Set up by The City of London in 2010, this excellent initiative expands its footprint every year, improving the area and proving that when people are happy, they work better.

Alex Evans at the Foundry Gallery, Chelsea Quarter: LDF17

The astute reader will have noticed that SEEN loves art about London. There are many artists in this city who draw (pun intended) their inspiration from it, none more so than Alex Evans whose fractal renderings hint at the entropic nature of urban life and perhaps also our anxieties and isolation in the 21st century. His latest exhibition ‘Invisible Systems’ can be seen at the Foundry Gallery, tucked away off the King’s Road until 26th October.
