Caprera: A Food Revolution

In times of austerity and with bad news dominating the media, it’s always a good plan to go back to basics in the things that give us simple pleasure. Regular readers of SEEN will know that we love the seasonality, freshness and sustainability of many food producers, restaurants, and pop ups that predominate in London (particularly over the summer months), so imagine our delight when we discovered what Caprera is all about.

Put simply, Caprera is an online marketplace tapping into British food culture, thus acting as an antidote to supermarket gimmickry. Whilst huge grocery shopping brands undercut each other to chase the consumer’s pound, they have forgotten in their indecent haste, that many shoppers (from all backgrounds) are interested in British, ethically produced and sustainably sourced products.

Caprera champions many British independent producers, whilst offering shoppers the convenience of a single delivery of their wares. This is ideal for those who are not just interested in where the food comes from, but who would like to know the team behind the product. Caprera is affordable, convenient and offers real traceability and sustainability on the food and producers it showcases.

SEEN loves hearty flavours so it was great to click on the website to see the selection of chillies on offer. Caprera sells cheese-making kits, mouth-watering fruit crisps, an astounding range of curds – from Classic Lemon to Rhubarb and Vanilla, wonderful gins, delicious cakes (including gluten-free), the list goes on… SEEN particularly likes the ‘Curated Collection’ section, which is inspiring in its ideas and influences from around the world. I had to keep reminding myself that it’s all produced in Britain.

SEEN can remember the chef Antony Worrall Thompson saying that if British producers went totally organic it would rejuvenate rural areas and improve the health of the nation. That was a revolutionary statement and SEEN thinks that Caprera is part of a new food revolution. That, in the wake of Brexit, is a heartening thought.

Ferrari: Under the Skin at the Design Museum

This perfect capsule exhibition brings home yet again to SEEN the sheer grit and determination of the man behind Ferrari; one of the world’s iconic vehicle brands. Here is evidence (£140million of it) of Enzo Ferrari’s grand obsession: cars whose lines make them more akin to space rockets than anything earthbound. The factories in which …
